Conyers is pleased to announce Nazari Woods as the latest young Bermudian lawyer to be called to the Bermuda Bar. The ceremony took place on Friday 15 November before the Hon. Justice Alan Richards. This milestone marks the culmination of years of dedication, hard work and academic excellence.
Nazari began his pupillage with Conyers in October 2023. He is also a 2022 recipient of the firm’s Legal Education Awards.
Director Chiara Nannini submitted his application to the Court, describing Nazari as “quietly confident” and “a person of good character.” She stated, “In getting to know Nazari, I have come to understand his “why” for wanting to be a member of the Bar. Nazari believes that it is his duty to help others and wants to be able to use his skills in order to do so.”
Larissa Burgess, former Crown Counsel for the Department of Public Prosecutions supported his application, commenting she was “most honoured to support Nazari and to be adopted into his village.”
Nazari attended Saltus Grammar School and later graduated from Bermuda Institute in 2018. His passion for law ignited during his time at Bermuda Institute, where he excelled academically and in various extracurricular activities. Nazari’s achievements include serving as Grade 11 Class President and Prefect, Student Association President in Grade 12, and was a recipient of the Ernst and Young Scholarship and PHC Foundation Scholarship.
Nazari attended the University of Kent, where he earned a Bachelor of Laws with Quantitative Research. He then completed the Legal Practice Course with a Master of Science in Law, Business, and Management at The University of Law in London. Outside of school, Nazari was involved in the Kent Law Society, the Kent Law Clinic, and recently joined The Mirrors Programme in Bermuda as a life coach.
Nazari gained valuable experience through internships and work shadowing at the Department of Public Prosecutions, Wakefield Quinn, and the Registry General’s office. His dedication to the legal profession was further solidified by participating in Conyers Student Programme in 2021 and 2022, working alongside experienced lawyers in various departments.
In his address to the Court, Nazari thanked Director Neil Henderson who introduced him to corporate law and his pupil masters Robert Alexander, Karen Corless, Grace Quinn, Jonathan O’Mahoney, and Chiara Nannini. He acknowledged all the directors, associates, and corporate administrators at Conyers. Nazari also expressed gratitude to his parents, sister, grandparents, former teachers, and other family members – all who have played a major impact in shaping the person he is today.
Nazari’s admission to the Bermuda Bar is a testament to his character, determination and commitment to the legal profession.
“As I continue my next chapter in life as a member of the Bermuda Bar I will uphold the code of conduct and I pledge to make a difference in my community. I plan to be a doer and actor for change,” said Nazari. “I plan to use my determination, resilience, and hard work to continue to exceed expectations and strive for excellence in this industry.”
